About Structure – Exercise Two: Summary

Hey kids…I’ve been busy. Exercise one is in the bag. It’s not great, it’s not bad, it just is. Hopefully I can make something of it.

At any rate, the second chapter of “The Screewriter’s Workbook,” About Structure, deals with, you guessed it, structure.

Part one tasks you with watching a few movies.

Syd offers the following movies to choose from:

The Hours

Thelma & Louise

The English Patient

Ordinary People

The Bourne Supremacy

You’re supposed to pick two movies and break them down into beginning, middle, and end using free association writing.

Then in part two you’re supposed to come up with a screenplay idea off the top of your head and break it into beginning, middle, and end.

I’m going to pick Ordinary People and Thelma & Louise. Unfortunately, it’s going to take a few days for Netflix to get them to me. Until then, hang tight.
