Structuring Act I: Chapter Nine Exercise – Summary

The exercise for chapter nine is a two parter. But it’s the start of when all of this stuff really starts to get exciting.

Part one deals with structuring Act I on 14 index cards. The first card is the opening scene. The last card is plot point 1.

Part two deals with creating a back story for the character. Specifically it should deal with some even that occurs just before the screenplay begins. This way you know where your character is coming from. I think I’m going have it be Tom’s agent letting him know his syndication deal with five new newspapers has fallen through. I figure that’s something good to worry about.

Anyway, I’ll have pictures of my 3×5 index cards up when I post part 1.

Enjoy.
