Aside from screenwriting, one of my hobbies is weight lifting.
Here I am doing overhead extensions with 100 pounds for 15 reps:

Why do I lift weights? Aside from the fact that I just like being strong, physical fitness has always been something that I took very seriously. This dates back all the way to being high school. I’ve always eaten well and been athletic. I don’t do many competitive sports anymore, so hitting the gym and lifting iron allows me to compete against myself.
A lot of the time I’m in the gym I’m in somewhat of a meditative state. Sure, I’m conscious of what set I’m on, and what the next exercise is coming up next, but I’m able to detach part of my brain that is usually concerned with the little details in life and work. I’m able to relax mentally, even though I’m very stressed physically.
Plus, it’s just a good way to blow off steam. I think it’s important to have more than one hobby. And this is just one of those hobbies I get a lot of enjoyment out of.
